Deacon Christine Bennett was ordained to the diaconate on October 17 in 1998. She has served at The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary since her assignment here by the Bishop of Maine in September of 2007. Deacon Christine and her husband, Larry, have two grown children and five grandchildren and have lived in Raymond for 29 years. Their favorite activity is traveling in their camper both locally and down to Florida in the winter months, especially when their black Labrador Retriever can go too!
Deacon Christine’s outreach ministry is to the women inmates at the Windham Correctional Center where she offers small group activities such as a program for incarcerated moms and “Walking the Mourner’s Path”, an eight week grief program. Christine has been a volunteer at the Correctional Center for about 10 years. Deacon Christine is also a member of the Diocese’s Deacon’s Council, which has oversight of the deacon community particularly planning and administering the Deacon Formation Program and continuing education opportunities for those already ordained.
Deacon Christine’s ministry at Saint Mary’s includes her participation in Sunday worship and other liturgies; assisting with the coordination of care for parishioners; leading occasional Bible and book study groups; and in encouraging everyone to find their place to serve God’s people in the world.
