Tower Work Begins in January

As we head into a new year, we want to provide an update on two projects that will impact our campus. The First is an update for the Church restoration project. After two and a half years of planning, we are about to enter the next phase of Preserving Our Heritage campaign projects.

With the Rectory updating complete, we turn our sights next to our beloved sanctuary. The important work of protecting our building from the harsh Maine weather is a project that cannot be delayed.

The Building and Grounds team has seen the cost to other churches which have waited too long to address aging buildings. The time is perfect to preserve our Saint Mary’s for another 135 years.

The primary concern with the overall project is water mitigation. Sealing and protecting our building from water seeping in and damaging the mortar that holds the stone together has been a primary focus. Our engineering partner, Thornton Tomasetti, examined and mapped every inch of the building with pictures and drone footage.

We will first see work begin the second or third week of January.

The entire campaign team is grateful for the contributions that have been made to date, and we welcome any additional gifts that will help us get this project to the finish line. We have raised 75% of the funding needed to complete this project and look forward to working together to raise the remaining 25%.
